The Rotary Club of Boca Raton proudly sponsors it seventh annual Future Stars performing Arts Competition featuring South Florida’s premier vocal and dance artists. Middle and high school students from local area schools compete to become “Finalists” each year through an open live audition process. Hundreds of students competed for 32 spots in this year’s show, which will be the opening event for theFestival of the Arts Boca presented by Centre for the Arts at Mizner Park on March 5th. 2010.
The Rotary Club of Boca Raton through its youth oriented community service efforts is committed to “Changing Lives & Building Futures” of Boca Raton’s aspiring students For more than twenty-five years, it has been awarding scholarship and college assistance to more than 200 students. Revenue received from promoting Future Stars will continue to fund its scholarship program. We are proud to announce that a new “performing arts” oriented scholarship will be awarded this year.
This year’s winners will receive cash prizes, awards, and a professional video shoot of their winning performance record at The Multi Image Group studios in Boca Raton, as well as an invitation to perform again at Mizner Park in Flossy Keesely’s Musical Showcase on April 23rd, 2010.
The “genesis” of the Future Stars Competition was originated in our Producer and Co-Chairman’s (Rick Taylor) dining room seven years ago as he pondered his Presidency as the Rotary Club’s next incoming president. An active participant in the arts program, Rick contemplated how he could develop a community based program to showcase aspiring talent. Although slightly biased towards a strictly vocal talent competition, (his daughter is and extremely talent and part winner of the vocal category) he quickly realized there was a broad pool of artistic dance talent attending local performing arts schools and that by adding dance, a unique multi-faceted show could be developed.
He enlisted the Rotarian membership and quickly found that Mike Berkman (Director) had over twenty years of theater and stage production experience. Together they quickly transformed an idea into a mission. It became their goal to provide a professionally written and directed show and platform to showcase young aspiring talent.
Fast forward six short years and here we are. Our recent collaboration with Flossy Keesely and her dream Foundation, Centre for the Arts and the City of Boca Raton has elevated Future Stars to one of South Florida’s premier Performing Arts Competition.
